Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT)
Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) is a highly progressive regionally based centre of education offering full time and part time courses. Waterford IT has 10,000 students and awards Degrees and PhDs in disciplines such as business, education, engineering, health, science, humanities and sciences and provides much of the workforce required by employers in Waterford City . Waterford IT is constantly introducing new courses to meet the needs of employers and provides a base for much of the Research, Technology Development and Innovation conducted in Waterford City .
Waterford IT is currently working towards the achievement of a University for the South East (USE) which will help attract additional funding and will assist Waterford IT to be at the forefront of innovative and collaborative research.
Waterford IT is strategically located adjacent to the Waterford City Outer Ring Road, close to the Waterford City Bypass (N25) and in close proximity to the Waterford Technology Park.
Telecommunications Software & Systems Group (TSSG)
TSSG is a world class communications research centre based at Waterford IT's Carriganore Campus. The TSSG is the largest group in Ireland engaged in communications software services and is one of the most successful integrated research clusters in any academic domain in Ireland . TSSG is also one of the top five European Communications Software Research Centres.
The TSSG's main area of research is communications software services encompassing emerging architectures for management of complex telecommunications and Internet systems as well as next generation service development and deployment. The TSSG has strong expertise in the areas of distributed systems and service oriented architectures, particularly when applied to the communications and telecommunications domain.
